This Molo mask (or Mòlò) is a major sacred ritual object of the Bobo Fing, a sub-population of the Bobo people inhabiting western Burkina Faso. Authentic and steeped in history, this mask demonstrates the exceptional craftsmanship of African blacksmiths.

Characteristics and Sacred Role
Blacksmiths' Attribute: Unlike the leaf or fiber masks used by other clans, the Molo mask is entirely carved from a single piece of wood by the community's blacksmiths.
Incarnation of Wò: For the Bobo people, these masks embody spiritual forces and the creator god Wò.
Ceremonial Use: It is mainly used during funerals, mourning lift ceremonies, or at the time of harvests. Its presence allows them to ask the ancestors to guide the soul of the deceased to the afterlife.
Design and Aesthetics
Geometric Face: It generally features a highly stylized rectangular face with a thin, straight nose.
Crest and Horns: The head is topped with an arched protuberance or horns pointing forward, often symbolizing a mythical bird or a protective animal.
