A hand-carved wood stool with a broad, organic oval seat measuring approximately 29 cm at its widest point, supported by three sturdy, slightly splayed legs carved in one piece with the seat. The seat surface shows natural radial cracking and grain patterning consistent with carving across the cross-section of a tree trunk, along with a warm, aged patina developed through handling and use. The legs are simply finished with angled, faceted cuts.
Low tripod and multi-legged stools of this type are found across a number of West and Central African carving traditions, used for everyday seating as well as, in some cultures, as markers of status or as ceremonial seats for elders and chiefs. Their organic, single-piece construction reflects a broader African woodworking tradition of carving furniture directly from a single log or trunk section.
