The door is densely decorated with rows of stylized ancestor figures (abstracted human forms with raised or diamond-shaped bodies) arranged in vertical registers, flanking a central carved figure resembling a lizard or gecko — a motif frequently associated with fertility and ancestral protection in Dogon iconography. The side edges are carved with bands of triangular/zigzag geometric patterning, a hallmark of Dogon decorative carving.
