Origin: Burkina Faso — Lobi peoples
Height: 55 cm
Material: Carved wood, aged natural patina
Condition: Age-consistent surface wear; small nail/tack mark visible near the junction of the fork (possibly old repair); stable structure throughout
About this piece:
An unusual and striking Lobi carved object, built around a forked, Y-shaped form terminating in two carved human heads at the upper branches, joined below into a single figure with a torso, bent legs, and a solid base. Each head is individually carved with simplified facial features — small eyes, a straight nose, and a composed expression — set atop elongated neck-like extensions that form the two arms of the fork. The lower body merges the two upper elements into a unified standing figure, with bent knees and a stable footed base allowing the piece to stand upright. The wood carries a warm, weathered patina throughout, consistent with genuine age and handling.
Notes for Collectors
The precise ceremonial function of this specific forked form is best confirmed by a specialist in Lobi ritual objects; Alobalo is happy to provide further detail on request.
Recommended care: keep away from direct sunlight and high humidity; a light museum wax may be used for surface stabilization — test on a small area first.
