About this piece:
An elongated, smoothly carved oval mask in the reductive style characteristic of this Congo Basin masking cluster. The face is dominated by its minimalist construction — tiny pinhole eyes set beneath painted arched double-line brows, and a long, narrow ridged nose dividing the face into two subtly differentiated painted zones. Delicate spiral scroll motifs are painted at the temples, flowing into fine linear patterning across the forehead. The surface carries a soft, aged patina with visible pigment wear, giving the mask a weathered, contemplative quality consistent with genuine ceremonial age.
